Devendran (43)is a resident of Thiruvalluvar town, Aluthupalayam village panchayat of Modakkurichi Erode district and is residing with his family.He has been working as the State General Secretary, Tamil Nadu in BahujanSamaj Party (BSP), the national party led by Mayawati.

He was extending his support for the candidate Mr. Boopathiof BahujanSamaj Party (BSP) in theModakkurichi constituency in getting votes for him. And on 31-03-2021 at 08-30 he along with the BSP candidate had canvassed in the Aruntathiyarresidentials located in Keeramadai village in Inchampally panchayat to collect votes in support of them. Bhupathi, SivagiriBorasapalayamDamodaran, KodumuduIchchipalayamRanjithkumar, ArachalurVinoba Nagar Sekar and KeeramadaiArundathiyar were among the more than 50 people who came there at the time.    Meanwhile the dominant caste people/non-dalit came there and abused Boopathi and the canvassing team in filthy and abusive language referring to the caste names. The caste mob also tried to attack them and also threatened to kill him.

Devendran, along with 5 others including Boopathilodged a complaint at the police station. FIR was registered under the Prevention of Atrocities Act-2015 at the Malayampalayam Police Station with the Crime No: 87/2021 U / s 294 (b), 506 (i) IPC r / w 3 (1) (r), 3 (1) (s), 3 (2) (va). On 02-04-2021, Ramshankar and Viswanathan were arrested and remanded in custody.
