Case summary

Baskar (21) is a resident of K. Andipalayam village of Avinashi Taluk of Tirupur District. He belonged to the Hindu Chakkiliyar community (sub caste of Scheduled Castes). He is working in a garment company and his fathers Mr. Ramasamy as well as his mother Thangamani are working as agricultural labourers.

On 04.05.2018 at about 11: 00 am Baskar and his 7 friends had gone to Ootarpalayam Annmar Temple festival and about 4: 00 pm they were playing cricket in nearby ground along with the kids. Meanwhile a man from the dominant community scolded the kids and told them why there were playing with the Dalit boys and told the kids to go home.

Also the man verbally abused Baskar and his friends in filthy language referring to the caste names and in the mean time about 50 men from dominant community (Gounder caste) surrounded Baskar and his friends and brutally attacked them with pelting stones, glass bottles and wooden logs. They sustained severe and grievous injuries at their hands, joints, legs and head. They also made Baskar’s friends Dinesh Kumar to drink the contaminated water from the drainage and ceased the android mobiles worth Rs. 15,000/- of Arun Kumar and Vijaya Kumar and left the place.

Baskar and his friends with the heinous injuries went to the Avinashi Government Hospital and since there was no doctor, the nurse and hospital staff gave injections and tablets to the injured persons. The next day morning the 8 victims were to the hospital for further treatment and got admitted in the hospital.
