Case summary

Rani (60) is a resident of Muthampalayam-Mangalapatti village of Kangayam Taluk of Tirupur District. She belonged to Scheduled Caste (Sub caste: Arunthathiyar) and working as an agricultural labourer. On 22.05.2018 at about 1: 15 pm she had went to a grocery shop owned by a man named Chellamuthu who belonged to the dominant community (Gounder). She had bought brinjals for Rs. 10 and gave a 100 rupee note to the shop owner. He had given remaining of Rs. 50 and immediately Rani had told him that she gave Rs. 100/-; mean time the shop owner verbally abused in filthy words referring to the caste names and brutally attacked her with his slippers at her head, face, chest and shoulders. She screamed in pain and the neighbours rushed to the shop and took her to the hospital. A case was registered at Vellakoil PS under crime no: 285/2018 and a counter case was registered against the victim Rani, her sister’s son Veeramani, Brindha, Tamilvannan at Vellakoil PS under crime no: 286/2018
