Ajith Kumar (28), a son of Adi Dravidian community of Papukulam village, Panruti circle, Anna village panchayat, Cuddalore district, passed Anna village higher secondary school in 2011 as the first student in class 10. As he was not able to continue his schooling due to family circumstances, he joined Namakkal SRV English Medium Private School on the recommendation of the then Cuddalore District Collector and passed as the first student in the school in twelfth standard.
He joined Tanjore Medical College in 2014 to study medicine and cleared all the first and second-year exams. He has participated in various protests including Ariyalur Anita death and NEET protest along with TNMSA Tamil Nadu Medical Students Associate organization in the college. He reads a lot of books by Ambedkar, Periyar, etc. in college and at home.
In 2017, 30 students were suspended from the hostel for six months due to a problem between students during the hostel day celebration in the college. Student Ajith Kumar is one of them. This suspension is over in three months.
Even before the start of the fourth year, Ajith Kumar was unable to pay for the hostel due to family poverty. Pointing out this, hostel warden Mathias insulted Ajith Kumar among his fellow students. He also threatened, "I will see how you go out after completing your studies."
Due to this, all the students in the hostel have made it a habit to eat late after eating, and they have isolated themselves from their fellow students. This incident has made the student Ajithkumar very upset.
Meanwhile, he was evicted from the hostel for not paying the accommodation fees. Due to this, Ajith Kumar had to stay in his friend's room and continued his education. Ajith Kumar, who suffered from many stresses like family poverty, rejection by the college administration, and humiliation among students, was forced to drink alcohol.
Citing these and non-payment of hostel fees, the college management did not give Ajith the hall ticket for the practical examination. Especially many students like Ajith, who did not pay the hostel fees, got recommendation letters from the ministers, showed them to the college administration, got permission, and wrote the exam.
Due to such constant neglect and loneliness, Ajith Kumar, has been ill for a few days and has been staying in a friend's room. Those who had studied with him at that time had gone out after completing their studies, so he stayed with them due to the habit of junior students.
In this case, on March 16, Ajith went to the room alone after having lunch with Ajith's friend Manoj Antony. Then around 3.00 pm, Ajith was vomiting, and his health was bad, he was informed through Manoj Antony's phone and he came to the hotel. Sabarikrishnan, Prabhakaran, and Ahmed were present there and gave him emergency treatment.
After a while, Ajith's condition worsened, and Sabari and Amir took him to the hospital in a two-wheeler. It is said that Manoj Antony, who preceded them, went to the hospital to keep the center ready. Ajith was taken to the hospital around 5.00 pm and the doctors who examined him said that Ajith had already died. Knowing this, the hostel keeper Tamilmani, Poovarasan, and the college management gathered there. They informed Ajith's parents through student Manoj Antony. At around 2.30 am the next morning, Ajith's parents and more than 30 relatives went to Thanjavur Hospital and protested on the sudden and suspicious death of Ajith.
Later, the police department and the college administration held talks and sent three doctors from Trichy to conduct an autopsy on Ajith's body at around 4.00 pm that evening. Later the parents who received the body brought it to their native village and buried Ajith's body on 18.03.2024.
