Rajammal is a resident of No: 3/37, Thandakaran puthur, Thtithipalayam village, Perur Block, Coimbatore District and has been living at the address for the last 30 years. She has belonged to the Hindu Arunthathiyar caste. She is residing with her husband Karuppasamy, and two sons, Prem Shankar and Umashankar. Rajammal’s younger sister Mani had died 15 years ago and her son Ravi was raised by Rajammal and he belonged to the Kurumbakkaundar caste. He had an inter-caste marriage with a woman named Sumathi and he has three daughters.
The Arunthathiyars in the village of Thandakaranputhur has a customary to draw water from a tap in a public place. On 08.10.2021 at around 03.00 pm the son of the owner, Madan Gopal had told to take away the drums and utensils holding water at their place. And he had verbally abused Rajammal in filthy language referring to the caste names in public view
Then his daughter-in-law Sumathi came rushing and asked for Madanagopal for his act. He had pulled her hair and pushed in the floor and threatened to burn them to death. They both received treatment from GH. The complaint was then lodged under Cr.No:363/2021, U/s: 294(b),323,506(ii) – IPC, r/w:3(1)(r), 3(1)(s) – SC/ST PoA ACT – 2015. The accused Mathan Gopal was arrested.
