Dalit Bonded Labour Tarn Taran Akbarpur.

  • Summary:: Gora Singh S/o Mehar Singh resident of Village - Akbarpura, tehsil & District- Tarntaran. He belongs to ‘Majhabi Sikh’ caste which has been declared as scheduled caste by the Govt. of Punjab. He worked for Balvir Singh @ Bira S/o Sardul Singh (Jatt Sikh) resident of village-Akbarpur, tehsil & District- Tarntaran. Balvir Singh gave advance Rs.25,000/ to Gora Singh. The bonded labourer used the advance money to repay the bonded debt of his previous employer Dilbag Singh who is the bother of Balvir Singh. Bonded Labourer Gora Singh started work from year 2007 and he worked till 2009 for Balvir Singh. Bonded Labourer worked for 24 hours for Balvir Singh. Balvir Singh never paid him full wages he gave him only Rs. 50 or Rs. 100 after 10 days. When bonded labourer demand his wages from Balvir Singh to purchase the wheat. Then Balvir Singh & his son Gopi beaten him mercilessly, abused him on caste basis and threaten him to pay them bonded debt otherwise they will forcibly took possession of his residential house. The employer demands bonded debt Rs.35000/-from the bonded labour. A complaint was sent to Deputy Commissioner, Tarntaran on 5/10/09 Ref.No. DDVA/54001/09. Now the bonded labour is physically free and free from bonded debt.

Murder of a Dalit youth

  • Summary:: Late Raja residing in Vandipalayam village of Thindivanam taluk. He belong to Hindu Adi Dravidar community. On 15th September 2009 one person Jothi belonging to Adidravidar community passed away. The funeral procession had to pass through the main street of Caste Hindu residence. The caste Hindus belonging to Vanniyar community intervened and blocked the procession. The dead body had to lie on the road for five hours. After five long hours the Thasildhar and RDO along with Police came to the spot convinced dominant caste people and allowed the funeral procession on the same road. Immediately after the incident the Vanniyars issued social and economical boycott on dalits. They blocked the all access roads with thorns, damaged drinking water supply pipes to Adidravidar and all shops denied goods for them. Even Children were denied milk the Vanniyars also damaged few electric motors which belongs to Mani and Nagaraj and threw them into the well. The victims along with other people gave complaint at the Marakkanam police station. The police called the dalit people for a peace committee meeting on 04.10.2009. All the dalits went to the police station in the evening and were waiting for the Inspector of Police. In the mean time some youths belonging to Vanniyar community burnt the poultry belonging to Raja intervened and try stop the Vanniyars. Since the Vanniyars and Naidus including Balu, Baktavatchalam, Murugesan, Palani, Lingusamy, Ravindran, Ravi, Rajendran, Iyanvaidu, Vellai Naciker, Purushotaman were in more number they killed Raja on the spot. The gang of eleven people then ransacked the house of nineteen dalits. They damaged the houses, utensils. Two buffalos were also killed.

Attempt Murder of a Dalit Muneerpallam PS

    R. Anthonimuthu (50), resident of Mullai Nagar, Keelmunneerpallam, Palayangkottai Taluk, Thirunelveli District, belongs to Dalit Pallan community. In Keelmunneerpallam village, Dalits and domiant caste hindu Devar community people have acrimonious relationship. During a recent such conflict, A. Stephen Arul Doss, s/o Anthonimuthu, intervened and brokered compromise between the dalits and devars. Hence peace prevailed for a while. Devar community people who felt compromise as a shame to their caste superiority, planned to attack the person who brokered the peace. On 30/09/09, 08.30 pm, Anthonimuthu went to the township in his M-80 bike to buy food for the dinner. On his return, near the Pillaiyar Temple, he saw a bike parked at the middle of the road blocking the way. He shouted asking who kept the bike the middle. As no one responded to the call, he getting off from his M-80 to park the vehicle on the road side. As soon as he get off the bike, Allakaathaan, Sudalaimuthu, Kalyanasundaram, Subbiah Pandiyan and Maharajan, all belongs to dominant caste hindu devar community, who were hiding in the bush, came towards him. Allakaathaan hit him in his face with a iron rod and pushed him down. Then all the perpetrators brutally assaulted him and as the victim fell unconscious, they threw him in to the nearby drain.

     

    Dalits belongs to Mullai Nagar, who were passing by the street, on hearing his murmuring sound, took him  to his house. Then Anthonimuthu and his family members went to the Munneerpallam police station to give a complaint in this regard. Later he was rushed to the Thirunelveli Medical college Hospital. He was admitted in the hospital for 12 days. Due to this attack, his lips torn apart and he was given 30 stitches in his lips. Police visited him in the hospital and got an statement about the incident. But they got a signature in two papers by threatening him. Soon after this they took his bike. Later it was known that the police department fabricated this assault as a accident. Police department is negligent to arrest the perpetrators and to take action against them.

Mob Brutal Assault on Dalits and Untouchability Practise

    Devanaam Pudur village is in Udumalai Taluk, Tiruppur District. In this village dominant caste hindu Kounders are in majority. In this Kounders and other caste hindus practices Untouchability against the Dalit Arunthathiyar community. Dalits are prohibited to walk through the streets of caste hindus. They are not suppose to touch the caste hindus. Most of the dalits work in the agricultural land of caste hindus as daily wage labours and others work as scavengers. The Dalits livelihood is dependent on the caste hindus.

     

    Kitaan resident of Devanaam pudur, belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community. On 26/09/09, around 7pm Aautha Puja was celebrated and almost all the shops were providing beans for free. Kitaan went to Arul Agencies and along with others in the crowd, he was waited to get free beans. As the crowd become uncontrollable, he was pushed into the front of the shop. As he was driven from  pillar to post, he expressed his disappointment. Arul Agency Owner Rangasamy, who belongs to caste hindu community, who was intolerant towards this and being infuriated he and his employees assaulted him, as he entered close to the place where the deity was kept. On returning back to home, he reported this assault to his family members and one Shanmugam, who belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community. Hence Shanmugam and Kitaan, went back to Arul Agency to enquire about this. Rangasamy who could not tolerate the assertion of the Dalits verbally abused Kitaana and Shanmugam, and he asked his workers to beat them out. Hence his labourers, along with Andiyur Kumar, Auto Murugan and Rasu, brutally assaulted them with iron rods and wooden logs. Escaping from the assault, both kitaan and Shanmugam took refuge in a Tea shop, the mob followed them and again assaulted them. On knowing this assault, Kitaan’s sister Selvi begged the mob to stop the assault. Kitaan sustained severe injury in his head after seeing them in pool of blood, the mob fled from the scene.

     

    Kitaan and Shanmugam were taken to the hospital around 10pm. In the hospital Kumar who brutally assaulted the Dalits, was given bed having sustained no injury. But Kitaan was asked to lay on the floor. They got medical treatment for about 10 days. Police have arrested only three of the perpetrators namely Rangasamy, Murugan and Kumar. After a week, even the three were released.

     

    Kounders who could not tolerate the arrest, announced a bandh for two days. Dalit Solidarity groups staged a protest demonstration requesting stringent action against all the perpetrators. But the police all the members of Dalit Solidarity groups implicating them for disturbing the public tranquility .

Brutal Assault on a Dalit woman

    Kasiammal (23), w/o Duraimurugan, resident of Thatchur village, Kallakurichi Taluk, Villupuram district, belongs to dalit Parayar community. On 24/09/09, while Kasiammal went to the ration shop along with her sister-in law (Parimala) and aunt (Anjala). While they were standing in the queue, Virudhambal, Krishnaveni and Indumathi who came late who were standing behind Kasiammal, went inside the ration shop (since they don’t want to touched by the dalit and not ready stand behind a dalit), not minding the queue. Kasiammal objected to this. Virudhambal verbally abused Kasiammal referring derogatory regarding caste and other unprintable words. When Kasiammal objected this, Virudhambal punched on her face. Krishnaveni pushed Kasiammal down. Then all the three dominant caste hindu women brutally assaulted Kasiammal. Parimala and Anjala cried for help. On hearing the noice, Seenu, wife of Virudhambal, came and he too assaulted Kasiammal. Virudhabal asked her husband to rape Kasiammal. Seenu tried to molest Kasiammal and he pulled her sari. Escaping from this onslaught Kasiammal ran in to her house being half naked without sari. Kasiammal sustained severe injury due to this assault, she developed chest pain as she was kicked over her chest. Then the atrocity was reported to her husband and she was taken to the Kallakurichi Government Hospital for medical treatment. A case was registered against the perpetrators, but the police was negligent to take action the perpetrators. Having seen the bias of the police, a protest demonstration was organized by the Communist party seeking the arrest of the perpetrators.
