Brutal Assault on Dalit Youth Kinathukadavu PS

    P. Duraisamy (42) resident of Devarayapuram, Sulakkal, Pollachi Taluk, Coimbatore district, belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community. He is a daily wage labour. He is affiliated to ADMK political party and during the MP election, he canvassed votes for ADMK candidate Mr. Sukumaran. He was appointed to monitor the election voting  in the booth of his own constituency. B. Prasad and Masilamani belongs to dominant caste hindu kounder community, were canvassing for the candidate belongs to Kongundu Munetra Katchi. They were threatening the people to vote for their party member. They brought two women who were not belongs to the constituency to make false votes. Duraisamy exposed this malpractise. Hence infuriated  Prasad and Masilamani assaulted Duraisamy while he was returning to his home. Duraisamy reported this to Karuppasamy kounder of Panapatti. Prasad, Durai, Periyappan, and Masilamani, all caste hindus of Devarayapuram who considered this as an insult, again went to Duraisamy’s house, dragged him outside his house and brutally assaulted him and verbally abused him referring derogatory regarding caste name. He was admitted in the Pollachi Government Hospital and the Kinathukadavu police visited him and received the complaint. The Police officials have not taken any action against the perpetrators. As all the perpetrators joined ADMK party, Dhamotharan MLA of ADMK party, persuaded the Kinathukadavu police officials not to take any action against the perpetrators.

Gang Rape of Sasikala

    M. Sasikala (19), resident of Kulivalavu, Karumarampalayam, Tiruppur Taluk, Tiruppur District, belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community. She was working as a tailor in the Traditional Clothing (India) Pvt Ltd. She was in love with one Vijayakumar belongs to Vanniyar community. Vijayakumar who was married, lied that he is a bachelor and promised to marry her. Sathish Kumar, resident of Anaikaadu, belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community, opposed the love affair of Sasikala with  a man belongs to other community. On 14/05/09, 8.30 pm Sasikala as usual went to the Cemetry near Karupaanrayan Temple, to meet Vijayakumar. When Vijaykumar and Sasikala were in the cemetery, Sathish kumar followed them and threatened them that he will reveal this to the villagers. Then Sathish kumar called his friends Ranjith Kumar (Kounder community) and Murugasen (Nayakkar). Sathish kumar and his friends forced Vijayakumar to rape Sasikala. They tied her and assaulted her. As the perpetrators forced  and threatened to kill him, Vijayakumar raped her. Then Sathish kumar, Murugasen and Ranjith kumar raped her repeatedly. They threatened to kill her if she reveals this to anyone. In the mean while Sasikala parents searched for her in the village. Around 1am on reaching home Sasikala revealed this to her parents. Her parents took her to the Tirupur Women police station, as there were no police available, they took her to the Government Hospital. Later a case was filed against the four perpetrators and all the four were arrested. Interim compensation of Rs.25000 was paid to Sasikala. Since then Sasikala was mentally traumatized by the atrocity.

Vengaanthur Mass Atrocity and Social Boycott

    On 13/05/09, during the election, at the Vengaanthur Poll Booth, Thanikachalam belongs to dominant caste hindu Vanniyar community and resident of Vengaanthur Village, insisted the Surapattu villagers to vote for the party symbol STAR. On knowing this 4 dalit youths of Vengaanthur namely Elangovan, Seetharaman, Theendhayalan, Sivaraman, enquired about this with Thanikachalam. As Thanikachalam apologized for the act, the  left the issue. E. Erusan who was an agent at the poll booth was stopped by the caste hindus on his way back to home.  The perpetrators verbally abused him referring derogatory regarding caste name, saying, “Paraya, is election is more important to you, how dare you para son of prostitute question us and sit infront of us at the poll Booth? Escaping from the assault, he went to his village and reported the attack to his villagers. Then he heard that the four youths who questioned Thanikachalam, while returning to their home, were targeted by the caste hindu vanniyars namely A. Rasaiyan, A. Venkatesan, A. Kathirvel, A. Palani, M. Thanasekar, S. Vasudevan, M. Palanivel, and M. Sakthivel and were brutally assaulted by the perpetrators. All the victims who sustained severe injury were taken to the Villupuram Government Hospital. On the same day, Vengaanthur dalits lodged a complaint with the Kedar police station. But the Kedar Police officials refused to register the case against the perpetrators and asked them to come tomorrow morning.

     

    On 14/05/09, Kedar police officials refused the complaint given by relatives of victims and witnesses of atrocity. They asked them to write as dictated by them. On the same day, again Dalit youths of Vengaanthur namely Arunbalagiri and Sekar were also brutally assaulted. Fearing further, dalit women were advised to bring back the injured victims. During the evening, the caste hindu Vanniyars organized Kangaroo court and ostracized the dalits. Shops were directed to not to provide stationaries and household items to the dalits of Vengaanthur. Vengaanthur dalits were boycotted by the caste hindu vanniyars. Borewell motors of Erusan, Sathasivam and Selvaraj were destroyed and thrown in to the well. Till date the perpetrators were not arrested in this regard due the negligence of the police department.

A Dalit Beaten to Death Since He Asked for Lit Lamp in a Function

    Amod Paswan is resident of Ismailpur village under Hajipur Sadar police station in Vaishali Dist., belongs to Dushad (SC) community.

     

    On the fateful day, 05/05/2009 he long with two of his community members namely Lalbabu Paswan and Vishnu Paswan went to see a marriage function of the daughter a of Bahadur Mahota of Ismailpur village. While the marriage procession going towards Budhimai Temple, electricity was cut off. So unfortunately, Amod Paswan asked to lit lamp. For this reason, the attendees of the marriage function caught hold of Amod Paswanand beat mercilessly by saying “how dare a Dushad can order to lit lamp”. Lalbabu Paswan and Vishnu Paswan were also brutally eaten up; however they managed to escape the place and hid. When Amod’s condition became critical, the assailants laid him down on the road, to turn the case as death due to an accident, but he was already dead by the time.

     

    A criminal case was registered in Hajipur police station on 05/05/2009 as No. 134/09, u/s 147,148,323,302 IPC but after the investigation the provisions of SC/ST (PoA) Act was incorporated in FIR. The victim’s family has not received any compensation from the administration.  The accused persons released on bail. Charge sheet is filed.

ABUSE AND ATTACK

    G. Lakshmi Bai, aged 38, w/o Late Durgaiah, SC Mala by caste, resident of G-11, F/t Towers III, Happy Home, Rajendra Nagar, Ranga Reddy District is a Government Employee (Gardener) since 18 years. She was posted a year ago for gardening work in the house of Md. Jani the former minister residing in QNo-21, Minister Quarters, and Road No: 12, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. On the day of incident i.e., on 4/5/2009 she went for work as usual to Md. Jani’s house at 7:30 in the morning. While doing her work, Md. Akbar, aged 34, s/o Md. Jani asked her to empty the dust bin and clean it. Lakshm Bai rejected to do so as they spit pan parag in it and more over she was not appointed to do household work but for gardening work.

     

    Akbar got angry by her reply and spit on her face and said that he will see her end. He beat her up, caught hold of her hands and dragged her out of the house and also thrown out her belongings. In that helpless situation where her co workers did not come to her rescue, she called up to the union office and complained about the incident. They came for her rescue and helped her in lodging a complaint in Banjara Hills P.S. S.I came to the place of incident and investigated and has confirmed it it is a fact. Even Jani has behaved in the same manner like his son in the presence of the SI. Later she was sent to Osmania   Hospital for Medical Checkup. Ensured that the accused was arrested. On her request, got the victim transferred to another place.
