Dumping excreta & wrongfully dispossess the Scheduled Caste Women

  • Summary:: Gurmail Kaur Mela w/o Sh. Malkiat Singh resident of ward no-6, Sardoolgarh District-Mansa. She belongs to “Doom” caste which is declared a scheduled caste by the Government of Punjab. Gurmail Kaur has a possession of a house for the last 45 years. On Feb 2011, her neighbours, Baljinder Singh, Raju Singh and Murty, all belonging to Jat Sikh community pressurised Gurmail Kuar to vacant her present residence. Because they do not want to reside near the Scheduled Caste neighbour. To put more pressure on her they also threw dirty objects within her house and also threatened her to quit the house. They also rebuked her. On 28/02/2011, Gurmail Kaur filed a complaint at SDM Sardulgarh. No action was taken on this petition. As a result on the 07/05/2011, she filed an RTI to SDM and there was also no reply to this. Later on, 17/11/2011, filed a complaint to the SDM to extend social justice to Gurmail Kaur. On the same day DDVA also filed a complaint with NHRC New Delhi, who referred this case for investigation to DGP Punjab. The case is still pending.

Brutal Assault Gopichettipalayam

    Sekar, Dalit youth, resident of Modachur Village, Gopichettipalayam Taluk, Erode district, was attacked by a dominant Caste hindu Mr. Rajendram Nayyakkar with a Iron Plough. Rajendran wrongfully occupied the Bavanisagar tributary LBP Drain belongs to Government/Public. He was growing Coconut tree and sugarcane on the wrongfully occupied government land. On 06/02/2011, Sekar went to open field for defecation. While he was returning through the Bavanisagar tributary LBP Drain, Rajendran attacked Sekar by throwing the Iron Spade on him causing grievous hurt and referred derogatory regarding caste calling “Sakkilia thaiyoli”.

     

    When similar encroachment happened for the second time, one localite namely Mr. Komrai, prevented the wrongful occupation. Gopichettipalayam Police station received a complaint from Sekar regarding the attack on the same of the incident, but not registered the FIR, in order to help the Caste hindu Nayakkars and Gounders to initiate the peace talk. Gopichettipalayam police officials were negligent to take action against the perpetrator, enabling him to abscond from the village.

Encroachment on Dalit land and brutal attack

  • Summary:: 25 Dalit families were residing on 24 cents of Government Porambokke land for the past 3 generations in Koodumaiyanur village of Anthiyur Village Panchayat of Bavani block in Erode district. After long and repeated demands from the dalits the Government issued free land titles to them on a site adjacent to this Porambokke land. These families constructed their own houses and resided in them. Five families continued to stay in the old land and took care of the deities worshipped by Dalits, namely Om Kaali Kaaliamman, Perumaal Samy Kovil, Gurunaathar Saamy, PettiSaamy Kovil.. Gurursamy Gounder owned agricultural land close to the above land. He was demanding the passage for water and entry to his land from the dalit families for a long time. Since 1975, the dalit families objected to Gurusami’s encroachment and demanded land titles in their individual names. Every time the dalit families raised a demand, the officials from the government would measure the existing land but did not issue land titles, and therefore the dalit families continue to stay on lands without title deeds for 3 generations. On 05.02.2011 Gurusamy Gounder, Periyarasu Gounder, Rajendran Gounder(25), Chinnarasu Gounder(60), Raja Gounder(26), Sekar Gounder(23) and Suseendran Gounder, forcibly entered the place of worship and fenced the entire land. Dalit families objected and protested for the above action. At this time Paavaayee ammal(60) m/o Gurusamy Gounder shouted and said ‘’Gounders will not be servants to chakiliyars, atleast one chakiliyar should be assaulted, only then the others will remain silent’’ When the other dalit families heard this noise they came to rescue the affected persons. Immediately, the six gounders left the place. Later in the evening around 5.30 p.m,, around 100 people from the Gounder community arrived in 10 Tata Sumo vehicles, 2 vans and 10 Two-wheelers. They set fire to 5 dalit’s houses roofs, broke the temples and damaged the deities. When the dalit arunthathiyar women prevented the Gounders from further damage, they were beaten with huge rods, sharp weapons and iron rods. Both women and children were severely wounded. The Gounder community went into dalit village and attacked every dalit they saw. The following dalits were severely wounded Sithaayee (56) w/o Kaaliyappan,Thangamani (27) w/o Ganesan (29),Poonkodi(20),Shanthi (27),Rukmani (35),Narayanan (60),Karuppan (40),Raman (50),Ponnusamy (47),Kannupaiyan (50),Maarimuthu (60) –Panchayath member,Kandasamy (47),Maaran (70),G.Kesa vinothini (7), Devaraj (25), Vadivel (25), Murugesh(20), Vengatachalam (25). The DSP of Bavani range Mr.Thangavel and a few Policemen were present at the spot of occurence but failed to protect the dalit lives and their property. On behalf of the affected dalit people, Mr.Maaran from the arunththiyar community preferred a complaint to the Anthiyur Police station.

Dalit man abused in name of caste- Lohagal village

  • Summary:: Sunil Medhbal(35) s/o- Kishanchandra Medhabal is a resident of Lohagal . Three years ago Sunil had sold his land to Ajay Chouhan with amount of Rs. 3lakh and 33000. But as aacording to law, dalits land cannot be registered in the name of non dalit so Ajay prepared a false agreement and asked Sunil to sign but Sunil denied so Sunil wrongfully registered the land in his name. But Sunil took his land back and returned Rs. 1Lakh to Ajay what he had given as advance. Since then there is enmity between both of them and Ajay giving trouble to Sunil. He has even abused Sunil’s wife in his absence and threatened her. On 22.01.2011 When Sunil had gone to submit his nomination form for sarpanch election, Ajay threatened him to withdraw his name from the nomination. On 02.02.2011, around 8pm when Sunil was returning home from work, Ajay and his 5 friends stopped him on the way and started abusing and beating him. They brought him to his house and abused him in the name of caste. Soon after the incident Sunil went to a nearby police station to report but could not find any police over there, then he went to Kisangani Police station but police did not take his complain. The next day on 03.02.2011 through court he filed the FIR. One week after reporting Dy.SP came to Sunil’s place of residence and inquired about the incident, then again Sunil was called Dy S.P office given his statement. But Sunil found the police are insensitive towards Sunil. When Sunil informed the Dy.SP that he was abused in the name of caste, and then the Dy. SP said so what if you are a dalit you will be called as Dalit.

Brutal Assault Puliampatti PS

    Ramachandiran, resident of Harijan colony, Puliampatti village, Aeppanayakkanpalayam,  Sathyamangalam Taluk, Erode district, belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community. He is working as a casual labour in a garments company. In Aeppanayakkanpalayam dominant caste hindu Nayakkar community people practice untouchability, discrimination and indulge in atrocity against the dalits. Hapless Dalits in this area, happened to endure this type of atrocity tilldate. On 31/01/2011, When Ramachandiran was riding his bicycle, Rajathi W/o Selvan Nayakkar verbally abused him saying, “Sakkili dog, can’t you ride slowly?. She referred him as a son of a prostitute. When Ramachandiran, objected to this verbal abuse, She again scolded him Saying, “ Sakkili dog how dare you question me?. Then she along with her husband and other caste hindus, tied him in tree and brutally assaulted him in a public view.

     

    When Ramachandiran tried to register a complaint against the perpetrators regarding this atrocity, Sub Inspector Ms. Muniyammal refused to register the complaint and she was biased in favour of the perpetrators.
