On 20/07/09 Aathur police officials remanded Raman’s brother P. Kanagaraj under police custody for investigation. When Brammasakthi (mother of Raman) and Ramasamy (brother in law of Raman), went to the police station to enquire about this. On 22/07/09, lawyer Velusamy, Jeyapal, Brahmasakthi and Rajalakshmi w/o Raman, went to the police station and gave Rs. 10000 as bribe and asked the police not to torture Raman. But crime branch police officials under DSP Chandrapaul, DIG Kannapan, and Aathur Police Inspector Muthukrishnan, brutally tortured Raman. On 27/07/09, Inspector Muthukrishnan called Velusamy and said that Raman sustained grievous injury during investigation and was admitted in the hospital and requested Velusamy not to make a issue out of it and not to file a case regarding this. But on 28/07/09 Raman succumbed to the brutal torture and died in the hospital.
