Eraiyur village was situated under Elavansarkottai police jurisdiction, Ulundurpet taluk, Villupuram District. In this village nearly 2000 Vanniyar Christian families and 500 Dalit Christian families are living. Though many people belongs to parayar and Arunthathiyar community they were dominated, discriminated and humiliated by the caste Vanniya chirstians.
In Eariyur village there was one St.Rosary Mary church which is ten decade older, all kinds of rituals and ceremonies performed in this church with partiality. The Vanniyar Christian inflict untouchability practices upon the dalit Christians. They detached dalit people through the ‘Parai Salai (The gate which is separate for Dalit in terms of avoiding defilement). Dalit Christian’s graveyard was allotted in the corner of the village where there is no adequate electricity facilities, and water facilities. Dalit people were not allowed to build stores such as grocer shops and tea shops in the main area of the village.
On 07.03.2008 some Vanniyars Christian youths capture dalit girls in their mobiles. A dalit guy asked question against this, he was attacked by Caste Christians. Following this incident the dalit people rebuilt the Sagaya matha grotto anter 30 years. They demanded for the proclamation that “this sagaya matha church should function as a separate church under the Cuddalore dioces”, hence they started their fasting demonstration from 07.03.2008 till to their death. Many other Dalit campaigns also gave their hands for the promotion of dalit community. On the third day of their demonstration it means on 09.03.2008 some of the Vanniyars Christians, around 500 entered into the Dalit hamlet and smashed all the necessary things. After that they entered into Sagaya Matha church and damaged all the musical instruments, torn shamina, broken shattered the chars and generators.
Mita Manjhi (50) s/o Goverdhan Manjhi is r/o Dostnagar village, P O- Sherpur under Maner police station in Patna Dist. The victim belongs to Mushar community (SC) and is a daily wage labourer.
Dalit people of Dostnagar used to work with Nemilal Ray, a landlord, however Birbhajan Ray (25), Lalbhajan Ray (30), Jaybhagwan Ray (45) and Chinta Ray (32) expected and forced dalit that they would work in their field, but the dalit people were not willing to work under Birbhajan Ray (25), Lalbhajan Ray (30), because of their rude behavior.
Thus lead Birbhajan Ray (25), Lalbhajan Ray (30), to teach a lesion to Dalit. That on 08/03/2008, the perpetrators with well armed attacked Mushar basti (Dostnagar) at about 8.00 p.m. In the mass attack Mita Manjhi’s right arm was broken and Kalute Chaudhari s/o Biphan Chaudhari and Gauri Devi w/o Sitaram Manjhi also seriously injured.
On 08-03-2008 F.I.R. was filed u/s 341, 323,325, 307, 447, 427, 504, 34 IPC & 3(1)(x) of SC/ST (PoA) Act 1989. So far the victims have not received police protection, and no police officer has begun investigation of the case. No Compensation has been given to the victims. The victims are under threat to compromise the case.
Basudeo Manjhi (35) s/o late Siwan Manjhi is r/o Gahlour, P.S Atari in Gaya Dist. is daily wage labourer and belongs to Mushar community. The Gahlour village is predominantly inhabited b y Mushar families. This village is 70 km away from district head quarters. The Mushar community depends on daily wage for their livelihood. Thus they migrate to neibouring states and districts to work in brick kiln. The victim Basudeo Manjhi (35) s/o late Siwan Manjhi also went to Nawada and started working in Chetak brick kiln which is located at Laxmi Vihoga village under Rajauli police station in Nawada Dist.
On 29/02/2008, Basudeo Manjhi went to Rajauli Bazar to buy ration for them. While returning he got into a tractor of Balmiki Prasad (35) s/o Rambrich Mahto, a brick kiln owner r/o Bahadurpur under P.S. Rajauli in Dist. Nawada. It is to his fate that Basudeo suddenly fell down from the tractor which caused fracture on his left leg. It is learnt from victim’s statement that the reason behind the incident is mysterious, however it is suspected that there was a conspiration for murder. A case has been registered against the brick kiln owner on 01/03/2008, No. 24/08, u/s 279,337,338 IPC. The victims have not received any compensation by the administration. The case is under trial in CJM Rajauli.
